Herbarium

The prints are presented in five series of unframed 30.6 cm x 40.7 cm photographs.

Documentary photography naturally represents what is about to disappear, and these series reflect this. Here, an old herbarium is shown, reflecting plants that once existed, once saved by being placed in a herbarium. But the herbarium itself is withered by time and threatens to be destroyed. The codes of photography also echo those of trompe-l'oeil, marking an aggravated distance from the plates depicted: both the distance between photography and painting, and the distance of a code of representation particularly popular in the 18th century, thus a time already distant, testifying to a vanished world. In each series, a plate lacking the plant further marks the programmed end of plants. These series all warn of the threats currently weighing on living things.
